AURORA, Colo. — All of the top eight seeds, including defending champion Cody Kent of The Club at Ravenna and stroke-play medalist Nick Nosewicz of Meadow Hills Golf Course, won their first-round matches Tuesday in the 115th CGA Match Play Championship at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora. Kent defeated Jeffrey Leavitt of the Omni Interlocken Resort, 3 and 1, to advance to the round of 32. And Nosewicz, runner-up in the 2014 CGA Stroke Play, topped David Lindquist of CommonGround, 6 and 5. Also among the top seeds who won Tuesday were Alex Kephart of Eisenhower Golf Club (No. 3 seed), Braden Baer of Legacy Ridge Golf Course (No. 4), Spencer Painton of Green Valley Ranch Golf Club (No. 5), 2014 Match Play runner-up Jacob Allenback of Walking Stick Golf Course (No. 6), Chris Korte of Lone Tree Golf Club (No. 7) and Steve Irwin of Lakewood Country Club (No. 8). The only top-10 seed to lose his first-round match Tuesday was ninth-seeded Andrew Tapia of Elmwood Golf Course, who fell 3 and 2 to former state high school champion Gus Lundquist of Colorado Golf Club. One former champion was ousted in the round of 64 as Colorado Golf Hall of Famer Kent Moore of Cherry Hills Country Club lost to Painton 2 up. Two rounds of matches will be contested on Wednesday, reducing the field to the final eight. The 36-hole final of the Match Play is set for Friday.
