Zack Atkinson is now a two-time North Mid-Amateur champion, winning in 2015 at Trophy Club Country Club

TROPHY CLUB, Texas — Zack Atkinson won the 2015 North Mid-Amateur Championship by one over Brandon Scott.

Atkinson is now a two-time North Mid-Amateur champion, winning in 2013 once again at Trophy Club Country Club.

Zach Atkinson held a four-shot lead over Brandon Scott and Joshua Irving when the third round began at Trophy Club Country Club this morning. It was Irving who made an early move with birdies on the opening two holes and with Atkinson’s bogey on the par four, third hole, Irving was within one of the lead.

After a tough final three holes on the front side for Irving, Atkinson took a three shot lead over Brandon Scott as the final pairing made the turn. This time it was Scott’s turn to make a run at the lead, as the Trophy Club member played the back nine at three under par.

Atkinson made a birdie on the 155-yard par three 17th, to bring his overall lead back to two. Eighteen was drivable with the forward tees and favorable winds so it was still possible for Brandon Scott to force a playoff. Despite nearing driving the green, Scott made birdie and Atkinson locked up the championship with a two putt par.

Atkinson’s victory was well deserved as the 2013 North Mid-Amateur champion never recorded a score worse than one under par, 71. His three day total of 209 was a seven under par for the championship.

Brandon Scott didn’t go home empty handed however. He was recognized as the 2015 Super Mid-Amateur Champion. Scott had a four shot lead over Bill Steen at the start of the day and by conclusion of the championship he was ten shots clear of the field.
