Sacramento State freshman Jesse Goldstein knocked off teammate Cody Bates 5-and-4 in the championship match
ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Sacramento State freshman Jesse Goldstein defeated sophomore teammate Cody Bates 5-and-4 at the Sacramento Valley Match Play Championship.
Goldstein, the tournament's six seed, and Bates, the five seed, both posted 70 in qualifying.
Goldstein needed 19 holes against 18-seed Steve Messer in the semifinals while Bates upset top-seed Matt Lewis two-up in his semifinal match. Lewis eventually handed Messer a 6-and-5 defeat in the consolation match.
