Titleist Pro V1x golf ball loyalist James Hahn won the Northern Trust Open after converting a 25-foot birdie putt on the third hole
Titleist Pro V1x golf ball loyalist James Hahn won the Northern Trust Open after converting a 25-foot birdie putt on the third hole of a three-man playoff. It marked the first career PGA TOUR victory for Hahn, who fired back-to-back 2-under-par 69s on the weekend.
James relied on an impressive all around performance to take home the title, ranking in the Top-30 in driving accuracy (28), sand saves (T9), strokes gained tee-to-green (2) and strokes-gained-putting (T1), but it was one shot in particular that he believes was a key to the victory.
On the second playoff hole, James had a difficult shot from the rough over the green on the demanding, yet driveable, par-4 10th. With complete confidence in his golf ball, James pulled off an impressive flop shot, landing within 12 feet allowing him to make birdie to extend the playoff.
"I love those shots... that's one of those shots where I've been practicing with my brother ever since I was five years old. You know, pick the most difficult lie, try to get up‑and‑down, and it's to win a golf tournament. I had a lot of confidence over that shot," said Hahn.
The victory also means an invitation to this years Masters tournament, a fact not lost on the newly crowned champion.
"I can not wait to go the Masters. I will certainly clear my schedule for that one."
Congratulations on a fantastic tournament, James. See you in Augusta!
