Simmerman goes 21 holes to beat Baugh at San Antonio Mid-Am Match Play
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Danny Simmerman, the 13-seed at the San Antonio Mid-Amateur Match Play, had a fantastic run, including knocking off the No. 1 seed Gene Williams in the semis to advance to the finals, where he needed 21 holes with Bobby Baugh to be crowned champion.
Simmerman defeated Williams 3-and-2 in the semifinals while Baugh advanced to the final match with a 2-up win over Luke Healy.
In the Senior bracket, three-seed Bob Hullender took down No. 1 seed Harry Ramirez in the finals to grab the title.
ABOUT THE San Antonio Senior Match Play
18 hole stroke play qualifier to determine a match
play bracket for
seniors. Open to any male with
amateur status, and
50 or older, as of the first day of the
tournament residing in Bexar, Comal, Kendall, Kerr,
Wilson, Atascosa, Medina, Guadalupe, or Bandera
counties for a minimum of three months prior to the
Championship date. Active Duty Military residents
are exempt from the three month residency
requirement.
