University of New Mexico star Gavin Green, a native of Malaysia, shot 68 on Friday in Kuala Lumpur to breach the top-20

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — University of New Mexico senior Gavin received a sponsor's exemption to play in the European Tour's Maybank Malaysian Open, and in his home nation, the Lobo star carded a second-round 68 to jump above the cut line and make the weekend at Kuala Lumpur. Green finished the event, which was won by Anirban Lahiri of India, in a tie for 25th place, shooting 73-69 on the weekend. At four-under, Green ended the week 12 off the lead, but just five strokes outside of the top-10. Green, who captured the Western Refining College All-American Tournament for the second straight year last November, made seven birdies along with three bogeys en route to his four-under round on Friday. His Sunday round included another slew of birdies — eight — to go along with three bogeys. Green and the Lobos men's golf team will head to Hawaii for the John Burns Intercollegiate beginning February 18. Full results from the event can be found here.
