Bettinardi's new H2 wedges, available in Cashmere Bronze and Satin Nickel, are precision instruments for your short game
The new line of wedges is named after a machine tool called the High Helix, that cuts and shapes the face of the wedges. By removing metal at a very fast pace, a unique milling pattern is formed, which provides enhanced contact in both wet and dry conditions and a remarkable spin while still retaining its solid feeling at contact. The wedges incorporate the concept of the C-Grind, which allows the leading edge to rest on the ground longer. This effectively reduces bounce on open faced wedge shots and offers versatility around the greens.
As expected from Bettinardi, the H2 wedge couples exceptional performance with the sleek aesthetic that identifies their established and distinct brand. Two different finishes are available: the Satin Nickel finish offers a traditionally classic look while the Cashmere Bronze finish encompasses an elegant and sophisticated appearance.
We spoke to Bettinardi VP of Sales and Marketing Sam Bettinardi about adding wedges to the product line. Our edited conversation is published below:
AGC: Why did you decide to jump into wedges now?
SB: It’s actually the third time we’re doing wedges. In 2001 we made milled wedges from a solid block of steel, similar to the way our putters are manufactured. We did the same in 2010.
AGC: What’s different this time around?
SB: The problem with milling wedges from a solid block is it’s very expensive. We would have to sell them for $300-400 and that’s not a good price point for a wedge in this market. We decided to pursue a high quality Japanese forging facility and released them this year internationally to test the feedback.
AGC: How did it go?
SB: The reaction was actually so positive that we decided to push forward our U.S. release date to just prior to the holidays and the PGA Show in Florida in January. Bettinardi H2 wedges can be ordered online at http://www.bettinardi.com/pro duct/ bettinardi-h2-wedges/ with prices starting at $180.
The future looks good for Bettinardi as they focus on the most important part of game improvement – the short game.
