JUPITER, Fla. (Oct. 11, 2014) — The quarterfinals at the Florida Mid-Amateur are set for Sunday morning at The Loxahatchee Club. Following the semifinal matches will be the 18-hole final.

The four remaining players are Thad Hudgens, Mike Riley, Joe Alfieri (pictured), and Don Bell.

2011 Florida Mid-Amateur champion Stephen Anderson was the highest seed to reach Saturday afternoon's quarterfinals before he lost to Riley 2-and-1.

The 2012 champion Rick Woulfe was into the quarterfinals as well, but he lost to Bell 2-up.

Hudgens, of Longwood, Fla., handed Steve Carter a 6-and-5 loss to advance while Alfieri defeated T.J. Shuart 1-up.

After Friday morning's second half of stroke play qualifying set the 32-man field for the Florida Mid-Amateur, the top-three seeds were knocked out in the opening round.

Medalist and No. 1 seed Matthew Salane, who shot 73-65 to claim the top seed by two shots, lost 3-and-2 to Steve Carter in the opening round just hours after being named medalist.

The round of 32 was played Friday afternoon, with the round of 16 and the quarterfinals taking place Saturday.

No. 2 seed R.J. Nakashian lost 2-and-1 to Kelly Goose while the third-seed Jaime Girardi fell on the 18th hole to Drew Bleakley.

That left No. 4 seed John Wegmann as the highest seed remaining, but even he met his demise Saturday morning in the round of 16. After handedly defeating Blake Marshall 7-and-6 on Friday afternoon, Wegmann dropped a 2-and-1 match to Riley.
