Four players are under par after one round at the St. Augustine Amateur, with Englishman Edward Richardson holding a two-shot lead

ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida (Oct. 10, 2014) — Edward Richardson posted a three-under par 67 in the opening-round of the St. Augustine Amateur, being held at St. Johns Golf Club. Richardson is one of four players under-par and leads the talented field by two shots.

Richardson's round included a bogey-free 32 on the first nine and an even-par backside where he bogeyed both par-threes but made fours on each of the two par-fives.

In a three-way tie for second place are William Gordon, Brandon Mancheno, and Joseph Winslow.

Four more players are tied for fifth at even- par after rounds of 70 to open the event.

John "Jay" Jennison founded the St. Augustine Amateur

The St. Augustine Amateur is a national event established in 2004 for better amateur and collegiate players. The 54-hole stroke play, walking only, competition is conducted over three days. The field is limited to 78 players whose golf resumes and tournament experience have earned them a spot in the field. The winner receives the John C. Jennison III Trophy as well as Golfweek/AmateurGolf.co m Men's Rankings, World Amateur Golf Rankings, and Spawar ranking points.

John "Jay" Jennison III passed away before his time. His vision for the tournament, which he authored in 2004, lives on at St. John's County Golf Club:

“The best expression of the game lies in high level amateur competitions and the fellowship and sportsmanship attendant at such events. It is our vision to conduct an event which provides this experience for players, sponsors, volunteers, and all who come in contact with the St. Augustine Amateur.”

About the St. Augustine Amateur
