It was a 12-year drought for the left-hander Robert Dargan, but a three-round total of 220 gets him his second South Carolina Mid-Am win

CLINTON, S.C. (Oct. 5, 2014) — With a final round of 74 and a three day total of four over par 220, Robert Dargan is the 2014 South Carolina Mid-Amateur Champion at Musgrove Mill Golf Club. This is the second Mid-Amateur Championship for the lefthander, winning the 2001 event at Spring Valley Country Club. Starting the day two shots behind the second round leader, Kevin Roberts, the 45 year old Robert Dargan knew that he was going to need a steady round of golf with no large numbers on the treacherous Musgrove Mill layout. The Columbia native did just that and managed to dodge the costly “other” score on his card for the day. Playing together in the last group, Roberts and Dargan made the turn with Kevin still holding a one shot lead. A birdie three on the par four 11th put Roberts back on top by two. The two traded pars throughout the next six holes with clutch putts and amazing up and downs by both players. Playing the last hole, Roberts’s tee ball found the rough and finished in a divot which caused his approach shot to fall short in the greenside hazard. After Roberts fourth shot missed the green and with the pressure on, Robert Dargan stuck his approach shot to 15 feet. With a failed up and down conversion by Roberts and a two putt from Dargan, the Columbia Country Club member sealed the victory by one shot. Finishing tied for third place was Laurens native Walter Todd and Greer’s Doug Ramey at ten over par 226. Greenville Geno Berchiatti and Defending Champion Lee Palms finished tied for fifth place at 227.
