Medalist, defending champion moving on at Oregon Senior Amateur
MOLALLA, Ore. (Sept. 23, 2014) — Doug Banks, the medalist, and Scott Hval, the three-time defending champion, are through to the round of 16 at the Oregon Senior Amateur.

Banks, who shot 68 and earned the No. 1 seed in a one-hole playoff with Randy Mahar, defeated Kurt Hiersche 7-and-5 in the round of 32, while Hval had a 4-and-3 win over Tom Zupan.

Mahar, who also shot 68 in qualifying, lost his opening match to David Lydell on the 18th hole.

Banks will face 2013 U.S. Senior Amateur runner-up Pat O'Donnell in the round of 16 on Wednesday. Hval will take on Gregg Guernsey, who won 4-and-3 over Mike Gleason on Tuesday.

ABOUT THE Oregon Senior Amateur

Entries are open to male and female amateur golfers 50 years of age or older with USGA Handicap Indexes of 18.1 or less and who are members in good standing of an OGA member club. The field will be limited to the lowest 96 qualified men. The defending champion and 31 finishers from the 18-hole stroke play qualifier will advance to the single elimination Championship flight match play portion of the competition, with the remaining entrants placed in single elimination match play flights according to score. There will be NO age bracket flights.
