COHUTTA, Ga. (Sept. 14, 2014) — Chris Waters of Atlanta posted a 4-under-par 69 in the final round to win the Georgia Public Links Championship by two strokes over two-time winner Billy Mitchell of Roswell. The 26th annual competition has been played at Nob North Golf Course, September 13-14.

Waters finished the 36-hole competition at 4-under-par 140 (71-69). After round one, Waters was one of four players at 1-under-par 71, which led the field. After recording birdies on holes two, six, eight and nine, Waters made the turn with a one-stroke advantage over Mitchell. On the back side of the track, he made bogey on 11, added a birdie on 15 and another bogey on 17. Mitchell, a back-to-back winner of the Georgia Public Links in 2010 and 2011, made birdies on two, four, seven and 13, and a pair of bogeys on 11 and 18.

Matthew Russell of Dunwoody (73-72) and Danny Baggett of Dalton (73-72) tied for third at even-par 145. Robert Williams, Jr., of Young Harris (74-73) and Ryan Morley-Stockton of Woodstock (73-74) share fifth place at 3-over-par 147. Peter Dash of Marietta finished seventh at 4-over-par 148 (71-77). Two players tied for eighth at 5-over-par 149, including David Noto of Clarksville (78-71) and Patrick Hall of Buford (75-74). Robert Smith of Dalton (76-74), Wayne Sutton of Hiawassee (76-74), Anthony Amodeo of Marietta (75-75) and Jeremy Schmiedeberg of Roswell (71-79) tied for 10th at 6-over-par 150.

William Pentecost IV of Atlanta claimed first flight honors at 4-over-par 148 (73-75), followed by Michael Lovett of Morrow at 15-over-par 159 (83-76) and Doug Cantrell of Woodstock at 18-over-par 162 (83-79). In the second flight, Tony Clayton of Tunnell Hill won the division at 22-over-par 166 (83-83), followed by William Williams of Rocky Face at 25-over-par 169 (84-85) and Tim Harrison, Jr., of Dalton at 26-over-par 170 (86-84).

Ladell Norton of Rome has played in every Georgia Public Links Championship since its inception in 1989, and finished tied for 49th in 2014 at 20-over-par 164 (81-83).

ABOUT THE Georgia Public Links

Entries: Open to male amateur golfers who are members of a GSGA Member Club that is open to public play. Entrants must not have held privileges since January 1 of the current year at any club that does not permit public play.

Field: 72 players with the lowest USGA Handicap Indexes and 72 drawn by lottery; three exemptions are given to the host club

Format: 36 holes of flighted stroke play.
