The Devlin: Three teams tied for lead
BEAUFORT, SC (Sept 13, 2013) -- Three teams sit atop the leaderboard at the Devlin at Secession Golf Club, heading into Sunday's final round.
Today first round leaders and father/son team Kel and Kris Devlin continued their solid pace, following a first round 64 with a 5-under 67 to tie with Steve Albright and Drew Ditty (65-66) and Mike Atkeison and Jeff Navarre (67-64).
And get this. The Tennessee team of Atkeison and Navarre went on a birdie run that seemed like it would never end – they were tweeting from holes 5 through 12 — that’s eight in a row!
With the final round a two man aggregate format, the tournament is literally reachable by anyone within a dozen strokes of the leaders. Last year's champions Mark Hanley and Jeff Mallette put themselves into position to count as contenders after following their first round of 70 with a "round of the day" tying 64.
The daily skins games have been fun, with just a single skin per day. Today's was picked up on the first hole by John Beatty. Playing with Bruce Devlin's son Kurt, Beatty holed a wedge from 96 yards. The entire time the ball was in the air Beatty said "96...96...96." Beatty is a member of the Devlin Foundation Board of Directors.
