(August 8, 2014) — Keenan Huskey of Greenville, S.C. and Rachel Dai of Milton, Ga. take home the Big “I” National Championships in the 46th annual running of the junior event. The two win the Robert Trent Jones Trophy and the Mayerstein Trophy, respectively. The four-round tournament was played at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W.V. In the Boys Division, Huskey, who lead the first two rounds, came out firing on the back nine to claim victory. The future South Carolina Gamecock followed his 1-over on the front nine with four birdies and no bogeys to fire a final-round 3-under 69 to finish at 4-under for the championship and win by four strokes. He finished as the only player in either division to finish under-par for the championship. “This is huge. This is the best feeling ever,” Huskey said with a big smile. “Ending my junior career like this, it couldn’t get any better.” In the Girls Division, Dai continued to play steady as the players around her faltered. Dai, in her first Big “I”, carded a 1-over 71 in the final round to hoist the Mayerstein Trophy. The Peach State player made four bogeys on the day, but rolled in three birdies to offset the damage. Dai finished the event at even-par, two shots ahead of the field. “Winning the Big “I” means a lot to me,” Dai said. “It’s been awhile since I’ve in contention or having a win for that matter. It’s also the conclusion to my summer season and I had a good start to the season and it’s great to have a great end to the season.” The Trusted Choice® Big “I” National Championship is the third-oldest junior golf event in the country and is renowned as the nation’s largest junior stroke-play golf tournament. This year’s field features juniors from 40 states who advanced from qualifying tournaments across the country. Notable past participants include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Webb Simpson, Hunter Mahan, Justin Leonard, Charlie Rymer, Christie Kerr, Grace Park and Cheyenne Woods.
