Fred Allen Meyer and Denver Haddix, Jr. will square off in the finale

From the Ky. Golf Assoc. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 30, 2014) -- Fred Allen Meyer of Nicholasville has many accolades on his golf resume: 2013 KGA John Owens Player of the Year, State High School Champion, a future member of the University of Kentucky Men’s Golf team, the list goes on and on. He could add another notable title on July 31 at Oxmoor Country Club as the 2014 Kentucky Match Play Champion. Meyer defeated Kyle Leach of Louisville 5&4 in the Semifinal Matches. Meyer birdied the par 5, 5th hole; eagled the par 5, 10th hole and birdied the par 4 12th hole in his victory. At 8:10 a.m. on Thursday, Meyer will face one tough opponent in Denver Haddix, Jr. of Lexington. Haddix has had one heck of a 2014 season, he was: Runner Up at the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Marathon Kentucky Amateur, he was medalist the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship Qualifier and even medalist for this event during Monday’s round – just to name a few! Haddix defeated Hunter York of Murray in the Semifinals 3&1. Haddix had many birdies in each round of match play competition and was never down in his semifinal match. A Meyer/Haddix final round pairing does not come as a surprise to many, as they both were picked as winners in the Golf House Kentucky social media contest to guess the 2014 Champion! In the Consolation Matches, Oxmoor’s Aaron Yarmuth will face James Inman at 8:00 a.m. Yarmuth knocked out #1 Seed Chris Doub in a 3&1 victory. Inman, meanwhile, handed Drew Kiehl a 5&4 defeat, which was impressive considering Kiehl had been winning his earlier matches by large margins.
