Brabazon Trophy: Three tied for lead heading into final round

HARTLEPOOL, England (June 27, 2014) -- Cormac Sharvin, Ryan Evans, and Ben Stow are all tied for first at the Brabazon Trophy with only one round left to play.

Sharvin, Evans, and Stow all posted 7-under 212 at Seaton Carew Golf Club, and have a one stroke lead over six players.

Sharvin fired a 3-under 70 in the third round on Friday to position himself at the top heading into Saturday’s final round, while Evans and Stow both shot 2-over 75 to drop back to the rest of the field.

Harry Casey fired the low round of the day at 5-under 68, and is only two strokes back at 5-under 214.

19 players are currently within five strokes of the lead, and the Brabazon Trophy is anyone’s to get come Saturday’s final round.

Defending champion Jordan Smith jumped up the leaderboard on Friday with a level par 73, and now is tied for 29th after making the cut on the number after the second round. At 1-over 220 for the tournament, he is eight strokes back of the leaders and will have to play near-perfect golf to try to defend his title in the final round.

The Barbazon Trophy serves as the English Golfing Union's Stroke Play Championship and runs 72 holes.

The final round commences on Saturday morning, and results can be seen below.

ABOUT THE Brabazon Trophy

The Brabazon Trophy is the English Men's Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship and is open to male amateur golfers of all nationalities.

The Championship is played by 72 holes of stroke play over four days and will be contested by 144 competitors, consisting of exempt players and those who have progressed through qualifying. 18 holes are played on each of the first two days. After 36 holes the leading 60 competitors and all those tying for 60th place shall play a further 18 holes on the third day, followed by a re-draw and a final 18 holes on the fourth day.
