LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 25, 2014) -- The temperatures were a bit cooler and the threat of severe weather vanished during the Quarterfinal Round of Matches at Wildwood Country Club for the Kentucky Golf Association Senior Match Play Championship. Players faced tough opponents in each of the five flights as the field size was reduced by half yet again. Flight #4 (a net division) got the morning started. Jim White of Prospect won his match 2 & 1 and will face Gordon Crawford of Louisville in Semifinals, after he won his match 4 & 3. Using his local knowledge of his home course, Daniel Kosek of Louisville won his match 2 & 1 and will battle Wayne Denham of Louisville who had a 3 & 1 victory in the Quarterfinals. In Flight #3 (a net division), George Gupton of Campbellsville and John Henry of Richmond both had impressive 5 & 3 victories. Gupton will play Terry Barrickman of Louisville, who won his Quarterfinal match by margin of 3 & 1. Henry will tee it up against Doug Elliott of Springfield, who posted a 1 up victory after a hard fought battle. In Flight #2 (a net division), Michael Smith of Louisville defeated Chris Borders 4 & 2. He will battle Gerald Belcher of Lexington, who finished strong in his 1 up victory. David Turner of Louisville also held on for a 1 up victory. He will face Vernon Denham of Louisville who needed 20 holes to fend off Bryant Nicoson in the Quarterfinals. In Flight #1, Mike Campbell of Louisville advances to the Semifinal matches after a 4& 2 victory and will tee it up on Thursday morning against Bill Stout of Prospect. Jim Orr of Louisville fended off a stomach virus and John Boyd for a 3 & 2 victory. He will take on John Lepping of Louisville after Lepping’s hard fought 1 up victory on Wednesday. The day culminated with the Championship Flight matches. Steve Rogers of Bowling Green continued his quest to defend his title with a 3 & 2 victory. He will tee it up against Dennis Long of Shelbyville who continued his solid play in 2014 with a 3 & 2 victory over David Pohlmann. Championship Flight Qualifier Medalist Rick Cain of Louisville won a well played match 2 & 1 against Tom Scheuerman. He will face Scott Pottinger of Louisville who won his match 3 & 1.
