COCHITI LAKE, N.M. (May 7, 2014) -- Devin Miertschin shot 3-under 69 to take the lead after Round 1 at the 2014 Sun Country Players Championship. Miertschin, a recent UTEP grad, is two shots up on Scott Lieberwirth and Daniel Koesters, who sit tied for second place. David Muttitt, Bill Harvey and Shaun Haberstroh are tied for fourth place after even-par 72s. Miertschin, of course, won the event in 2012. His impressive final-round 64 pushed him past a group of contenders that included Lieberwirth.
