Golfweek's Andy Zunz previews the conference championships around the country as the NCAA postseason gets underway

If you're looking for some college golf action, don't worry. There are plenty of tournaments on the horizon with conference tournaments starting up. Here's a rundown of what to look out for as the events begin: • • • AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE April 27-29, Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club (Copperhead), Palm Harbor, Fla. Favorite: Central Florida (No. 8 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: The UCF Knights have won two straight heading into the conference tournament, but No. 11 Houston has had a strong season, and South Florida is playing close to home. • • • AMERICAN SKY CONFERENCE April 20-22; Hammock Beach R&GC (Ocean), Palm Coast, Fla. Favorite: Sacramento State (No. 127 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Sacramento State could be the strongest team in the field, but Hartford sophomore Evan Russell could be the best player. Russell, who hasn't finished outside the top 10 individually all year, will look to make a run at the individual title. • • • ATLANTIC 10 April 25-27, TPC Tampa Bay, Tampa, Fla. Favorite: VCU (No. 76 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: VCU will have some momentum heading into conference play after a win at the Towson Invitational and runner-up finish at the River Landing Intercollegiate. • • • ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE April 25-27, Old North State Club, New London, N.C. Favorite: Georgia Tech (No. 3 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Duke stole the Yellow Jackets' thunder last year. Can No. 9 Virginia, No. 14 Virginia Tech or No. 25 Florida State do it this year? • • • ATLANTIC SUN CONFERENCE April 20-22, Chateau Elan (Legends), Braselton, Ga. Favorite: Mercer (No. 33 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: This conference is crowded at the top with Mercer, No. 40 Kennesaw State, East Tennessee State and North Florida all primed for a title run. • • • BIG EAST CONFERENCE April 26-29, Callawassie Island GC, Okatie, S.C. Favorite: Marquette (No. 115 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Marquette has hung around against tough opponents all year, but can it seal the deal against its conference foes? • • • BIG 12 CONFERENCE April 25-27, Whispering Pines GC, Trinity, Texas Favorite: Oklahoma State (No. 4 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: The Cowboys have not won the conference since 2011, but this could be the year they regain control of the Big 12. • • • BIG TEN CONFERENCE May 2-4, French Lick (Ind.) Resort Favorite: Northwestern (No. 7 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Illinois will look to win its sixth straight Big Ten title, but top-50 teams Iowa, Northwestern and Purdue may have a say before it's over. • • • COLONIAL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION April 26-28, St. James Plantation, Southport N.C. Favorite: College of Charleston (No. 79 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: UNC-Wilmington struggled in the spring against strong competition, and College of Charleston played well. Trends aside, both teams could be at the top on April 28. • • • CONFERENCE USA April 27-29, Oak Tree Country Club, Edmond, Okla. Favorite: Alabama-Birmingham (No. 18 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: UAB has three runner-up finishes and six top fives, but has yet to win in the spring. A C-USA title could set the Blazers on course for a strong showing at regionals and beyond. • • • HORIZON LEAGUE April 25-27, Mission Inn Resort, Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Favorite: Cleveland State (No. 176 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Cleveland State eyes its third conference title in the past six years. • • • MAAC April 25-27, Disney’s Palm GC, Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Favorite: Canisius (No. 270 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: After the departure of Loyola-Maryland from the conference, it's anybody's title to win. • • • MAC May 3-5, Longaberger CC, Nashport, Ohio Favorite: Kent State (No. 30 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Seniors Taylor Pendrith and Corey Conners take Kent State to the next level as it seeks its sixth-straight conference title. • • • MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE April 28-29, TPC Deere Run, Silvis, Ill. Favorite: Wichita State (No. 113 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: The Shockers will be in their element at the MVC Championship, where they have won every year since 2008. • • • NORTHEAST CONFERENCE May 2-4, LPGA International, Daytona Beach, Fla. Favorite: Fairleigh Dickinson (No. 211 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Fairleigh Dickinson holds a fairly strong record at 64-35 heading into the event, giving the team the chance to improve on its third-place finish last year. • • • OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE April 25-27, Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, The Shoals, Muscle Shoals, Ala. Favorite: Austin Peay State (No. 80 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Austin Peay has the talent to win its second-straight title and third in the past six years. • • • PAC-12 CONFERENCE April 25-27, Gallery GC, Marana, Ariz. Favorite: Stanford (No. 6 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Junior Patrick Rodgers and Stanford are on a roll, but a number of teams could come out victorious, including No. 5 California, No. 13 Washington, No. 15 UCLA or No. 20 USC. • • • PATRIOT LEAGUE April 26-27, West Point (NY) GC Favorite: Loyola-Maryland (No. 154 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Loyola will look to go 1-for-1 in Patriot League Championships. • • • SOUTHEASTERN CONFERENCE April 25-27, Sea Island Golf Club (Seaside), St. Simons Island, Ga. Favorite: Alabama (No. 1 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Don't look now, Alabama, but the Georgia Bulldogs have risen to the No. 2 spot in Golfweek's rankings. The SEC Championship could be a power struggle between the two national contenders. • • • SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE April 21-23, Stonebridge Ranch CC, McKinney, Texas Favorite: Southeastern Louisiana (No. 71 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Southeastern Louisiana did not play as well in the spring as it did in the fall, but is still in the driver's seat as it makes a bid for back-to-back titles. • • • SWAC April 21-23, Oak Wing Golf Club, Alexandria, La. Favorite: Alabama State (No. 201 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Can the Alabama State make it three in a row? Someone will have to step up and stop them. • • • SUMMIT LEAGUE April 21-23, Sky Creek Ranch GC, Keller, Texas Favorite: Denver (No. 131 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Denver will try to step in and seize men's and women's titles in the Summit League. • • • SUN BELT CONFERENCE April 21-23, Grand Bear GC, Saucier, Miss. Favorite: Georgia State (No. 46 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: Georgia State's recent win at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate will give it momentum, but No. 54 South Alabama is a force to be reckoned with as well. • • • WAC May 2-4, Stallion Mountain GC, Las Vegas Favorite: New Mexico State (No. 68 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) Buzz: New Mexico State was not shy when it developed its spring schedule, but that competition could help the team win another WAC title.
