Durability, comfort and feel are the operative words, all thanks to Tri-Layer technology
Golfers have the choice of combination iron sets, drivers that provide forgiveness and playability and lightweight shoes that don't skimp on support.
Lamkin's multi-material UTx grips definitely fit the trend and, in the grip category, see to have become a trend setter in their own right.
Released in January, the UTx line is the first to feature Lamkin's new proprietary Tri-Layer technology. The goal of the technology is to optimize grip feel for the shotmaker in all of us while not skipping a beat in terms of all-weather performance and the other features Lamkin users have come to know and love in recent years, including vibration dampening, tackiness and durability.
UTx is made from three layers. The foundation layer is tacky and soft, made from the company's popular ACE 3GEN material. In the middle layer, there's a moisture-wicking fabric weave designed to provide traction and control in wet weather. The outer layer is a firmer version of the ACE 3GEN material that helps limit grip torque, which can, of course, lead to better swings and more consistent shots.
"What we've done is just put things together the way they haven't really been done before and given it a unique look too," said Carl Pettersen, Lamkin's Vice President of Engineering. "Its acting a lot like a rebar. It's taking a nice softer material and adding some structure to it. But you still get to capture that soft feeling underneath."
The functionality of the design is clear but how they apply to the course is perhaps more important to the avid golfer. And with a solid blend of comfort, durability and all-weather performance, the UTx has hit its mark.
"We wanted to build something that had the benefits a cord grip gives you in terms of the wicking but we also didn't want it to be too aggressive on your hands," Pettersen said. "So we were able to change the way that we layered the different material and using our ACE 3GEN materials has made a great grip."
Lamkin UTx grips come in standard and midsize with black, blue and red color options. The latter two are in a really fun and distinctive "distressed" look that almost has the appearance of a well worn pair of jeans.
The UTx grips retail starting at $8.99 and are available in most major golf retail stores.
