SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (March 3, 2014) -- Brian Westveer from Charlotte, North Carolina and Scott Harvey, from Greensboro, North Carolina, won the Open Division for a second straight year on the fifth hole of a sudden death playoff with a Hole-in-One (Scott Harvey) over Chris Cassetta from Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Matt Crenshaw from Burlington, North Carolina.

Westveer and Harvey signed for a 54-hole total of 65-67-64-196, which marked their third victory in the Pine Needles Invitational.

Jon Hurst from Fredericksburg, Virginia and Keith Decker from Martinsville, Virginia finished third with a 54-hole total of 664-68-67-199. Michael McGowan from Southern Pines, North Carolina and Trey Kilpatrick Atlanta, Georgia finished fourth with a 54-hole total of 65-71-66-202.

Brad Ferguson and Vincent Nadeau, both from Zion Crossroads, Virginia, finished in fifth place with a 54-hole total of 66-69-70-205.

Allen Barber from Yorktown, Virginia and Charlie Green from Tazwell, Virginia won the Senior Division with a 54-hole total of 67-66-68-201. Keith Waters from Raleigh, North Carolina and Dick Hogan from Burlington, North Carolina finished in second place with a 54-hole total of 68-70-68-206.

Kelly Miller form Southern Pines, North Carolina and Chris Dalrymple form Pinehurst, North Carolina finished third with a 54-hole total of 71-67-69-207. Spike Smith from Pinehurst, North Carolina and Jim MacAllister from Fort Washington, Pennsylvania finished fourth with a 54-hole total of 70-71-68-209.

The teams of Harold Payne and Steve Fox from Hurricane, West Virginia and Huntington, West Virginia respectively and Greg Bales and Rick Lareau both from Glen Allen, West Virginia, all tied for fifth place with a 54-hole total of 210.

A field of 120 amateur golfers from 12 state as well as Canada and the Bahamas, teed off Friday at the 20th Annual Pine Needles Invitational Golf Tournament at Pine Needles Golf Club & Mid Pines Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina.

The popular team event annually attracts a strong field of golfers and is played over three days on the resort's Donald Ross Designed Golf Courses. The Pine Needles Invitational includes two divisions (Open & Senior) and cut to the low 48 teams for the final round on Sunday. The format for rounds 1 & 2 are fourball competitions played at Pine Needles & Mid Pines and the final round is a modified alternate stroke competition played at Pine Needles.

ABOUT THE Pine Needles Invitational

54 holes four-ball stroke play championship with open and senior (both players ages 50+) divisions. The first two rounds are best-ball and the final round is modified alternate shot. The field will be cut to the low 48 teams split between both divisions following the second round. The Consulation Round will be played at Mid Pines.
