Southern States Four-Ball: Cook, Palmer take lead
JUPITER, Fla. (Jan. 11, 2014) -- Indianans Kenny Cook and Todd Palmer took the first round lead Saturday in the featured Mid-Am Division of the 11th SGA Southern Four-Ball.
The pair shot 6-under 66 at the Old Trail Course of Jonathan's Landing Club.
Joe Sommers of Stamford, CT, and David Tassell of Jupiter took the lead in the Senior Division with a 67, one stroke ahead of reigning US Senior Amateur champ Dr. Doug Hanzel of Savannah and Buzz Fly, a onetime PGA Tour pro from Memphis.
The scheduled start of the tournament on Friday was postponed due to soggy conditions after heavy rains on Thursday. The event, featuring many nationally-prominent career amateurs, is being reduced to 36 holes and is scheduled to conclude on Sunday.
Bill Luceno of PB Gardens and Frank Tellefsen of Staten Island NY lead the Super Senior Division at 71.
