Hudgens, Veneziano to meet in Fla. Mid-Am finale

Thad Hudgens, of Longwood, will face Jon Veneziano, of Mount Dora, with Player-of-the-Year honors on the line
LAKE WALES, Fla. (Oct. 13, 2013) -- The final match is set at the 32nd Mid-Amateur Championship held at the historic Mountain Lake Golf Course, in Lake Wales. Thad Hudgens, of Longwood, will face Jon Veneziano, of Mount Dora, with Player-of-the-Year honors on the line.
Hudgens earned his spot in the finals by defeating David Tassell, of Jupiter in the Round of 32 by a margin of 5 and 4. Hudgens then ousted the number one overall seed, and past Champion, Joe Alfieri, of Lutz, in 19 holes, to advance to the Quarterfinals. In the Quarters, Hudgens then defeated past Florida Senior Open Champion, Pete Williams, of Juno Beach, 3 and 2, and carried the momentum into Sunday afternoon to defeat John Wegmann, of Southwest Ranches, 3 and 2 to earn his spot in the finals.
Veneziano who earned the number 10 seed in the stroke play portion of the event, made quick work of Stevenson Clarke, of West Palm Beach, in the Round of 32, by defeating him 5 and 4. Veneziano then needed extra holes to oust Ken Palladino, of Dunedin, earning the victory in 19 holes. Playing Sunday morning, Veneziano would then defeat Davidde Giordano, of Jupiter, 3 and 2, and then Robert Bechtol, of Tallahassee, 2 and 1, to set up his final match against Hudgens.
The final match will tee off Monday morning at 8:00 AM. Hudgens will look to earn his first Mid-Amateur title, as Veneziano looks to claim the title for a second time in his career.

36 holes of stroke play determine a 32-player match play bracket. Must be age 25 or older and be a member of the FSGA.
