Occi, Clements win Washington Metro Sr. Four-Ball
BEALLSVILLE, Md. (Oct. 9, 2013) -- Three-time Belle Haven Senior Four-Ball winners Ben Clements and Mike Occi from Hobbit's Glen Golf Club combined to record a five-under par 66 on the way to taking the 2013 WMGA Senior Four-Ball on Tuesday, October 8 at The Members Club at Four Streams. Clements birdied the second and fourteenth holes while Occi birdied 4, 11, 13, 16 and 18. The pair slipped to double bogey on the treacherous par 3 seventh hole, where the hole was cut in the relatively inaccessible back corner of the lakeside green.
In a two-way tie for second were Bob Harwick (Chantilly) and John Steele (Reston National) with 32-35--67 and Harry Thomas and Bill Stout (Washington Golf). Thomas birdied #s 1, 2, 16 and 17 while Stout birdied five and six but the duo suffered bogeys on #s 8 and 15.
In taking solo fourth place, Jim Kyttle (Montgomery Village) and Armen Brick (Montgomery Country Club) fired 34-34--68 as Kyttle birdied the fourth and fifteenth while Brick birdied #s 4 and 17. The team suffered a lone bogey on #13.
At 69 were Stan Williams and Don Ragley of River Creek (35-34), Mark Rallas (Raspberry Falls) and Dwight Holman (Piedmont) with 34-35, Eddie Walker and John Hoffman (Laurel Hill) with 34-35 and Gary Reedy and Mike Howell (International) with 34-35.
The teams of Mike Cumberpatch and Joe Lefavor (Naval Academy) and Paul Ussery and Paul Gural (International) tied at 70. One stroke further back at even par 71 were Marty West (Columbia) and Bob Morris (Congressional) with 35-36, Kevin Lee and Larry Siu (UMD) with 35-36, Don Jeanes (Heritage Hunt) and Lynn Wessman (Army Navy) with 34-37, David Stewart and Bob Albus (River Bend) with 36-35 and Bill Calhoun (Beaver Creek) and John Armstrong (RedGate) with 37-34.
