Oregon Super Senior: Liljeholm wins again
Woodland Wash. (Aug. 15, 2013) – Tom Liljeholm of Prineville, Ore. shot a second-round 3-over-par 75 to leap first round leader Del Jordan of Tigard, Ore. to earn the title of Oregon Super Senior Champion today at Lewis River Golf Course in Woodland, Wash.

With the course again playing hard and fast, Del Jordan of Tigard, Ore. let one slip through his fingers after a thin bunker shot on the par-4 9th hole ended up lost in the parking lot. Jordan replayed the shot from the bunker on his way to making a triple-bogey seven but couldn’t make up the lost ground on the 6,087-yard par-72 golf course.

The Oregon Super Senior features three flights; the Nelson flight among Men 71-years of age and older, the Palmer flight Men ages 69-70 and the Nicklaus flight among Men ages 65-68.

Overall Champion Liljeholm took top honors in the Nelson Flight, Gaylord Davis of Portland, Ore. took the Nicklaus Flight, while Don Miller of Bend, Ore. just nudged out the victory in the Palmer Flight.

Cindy Anderson, of Eugene, Ore. earned the wire-to-wire win in Women’s field while Marianne Beutick of Portland Ore. earned the title in the Patty Berg Division on the 5,289-yard par 71 layout. When the Oregon Super Senior Championship was introduced in 2006, it was the first amateur golf championship of its kind in the nation with eligibility for Men age 65 and older and Women age 60 and older. For the first three years of the championship, men played a 54-hole competition with a cut after the first 36-holes, and Women played a 36-hole competition. Players compete in an overall championship based on gross scores as well as titles within smaller flights based on gender and age with 65-68 year old men placed in the Jack Nicklaus flight, 69-70 year olds in the Arnold Palmer flight and men 71 and older in the Byron Nelson flight.

Women play in either the Patty Berg flight (60-65) or the Babe Zaharius flight (66+). Additionally, players compete for Net awards within their respective flights based on the difference between their gross score and their course handicap. USGA Handicap Indexes are just one of the services provided to members of all Oregon Golf Association member clubs.

Lewis River Golf Course is one of eleven golf courses in SW Washington within the Oregon Golf Association territory that are home to regular OGA Member Clubs.
