Patrick Christovich's 4th straight Louisiana Mid-Am title highlights another busy week across the country
Starting the final round one shot off the pace,
Patrick Christovich
shot a 68 to win his fourth straight title at the
Louisiana Mid-
Amateur Championship.
Christovich, who held consideration for one of the two mid-amateur positions on the 2013 U.S. Walker Cup squad, only boosted his chances of remaining in the conversation with the impressive victory.
At The Bluffs Golf Resort in St. Francis, Louis., Christovich finished at 3-under and one shot up on Colin Richwine and Daniel Burger.
After taking the lead early in the final round, Christovich fell victim to a bogey on the par-4 11th. He showed the resolve that has made him into one of the country's top mid- amateurs, though, recording birdies on the next two holes to put it out of reach.
Earlier this year, Christovich tied for sixth at the Birmingham National Invitational after placing second at the 2012 Coleman Invitational.
ARIZONA AMATEUR: 57-SEED COLEGROVE PREVAILS
Seeded 57th in the 64-man match-play bracket at the 89th Arizona Amateur Championship, Christian Colegrove prevailed over No. 18 James Russo in Saturday's championship match at Pinnacle Peak Country Club.
Colegrove prevailed in 19 holes, Saturday, winning in the same fashion in the semifinals over Austin Quick.
MET (NY) AMATEUR: PAT WILSON ROLLS TO CHAMPIONSHIP
Former St. John's University golfer Pat Wilson captured his first Metropolitan Golf Association title in impressive fashion, defeating Trevor Randolph, 8-and-7, in the championship match at The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Conn.
Wilson raced out to the early lead, winning seven of the first nine holes, and never looked back.
NORTH CAROLINA MATCH PLAY: JENKINS REMAINS IN WINNER'S CIRCLE
Carter Jenkins added to his impressive summer by winning the North Carolina Amateur Match Play at Carolina Country Club. Jenkins, who won last month's Carolinas Amateur Championship at The Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, knocked off Alex Nianouris, 6-and-5 in Sunday's final.
The rising freshman at UNC Greensboro needed just 90 minutes to dispatch Nianouris in the championship match.
MET (ST. LOUIS) AMATEUR: WELDON WINS SECOND STRAIGHT
Kyle Weldon became just the second player in Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association history to successfully defend his title at the Amateur Championship.
Weldon shot a final-round 70 to hold off a surge from Phil Caravia, winning by two shots.
WASHINGTON METRO AMATEUR: HUGE BEATS DELMAR IN 34 HOLES
Maclain Huge chipped in for birdie on the 34th hole to seal a 3-and-2 victory over Steve Delmar at the 94th Washington Metropolitan Amateur Championship at Columbia Country Club.
The competitors entered the final nine holes of the scheduled 36-hole finale all square before Huge took a 2-up margin. At the par-3 16th, Huge put the match to an end by sinking his chip from 30 feet in back of the flag.
AUSTIN CITY CHAMPIONSHIP: NORTHINGTON WINS BY 3
Daniel Northington fired rounds of 66-68-70- 70--274 to win by three shots at the 2013 Austin City Men's Championship.
Northington trailed by two shots after Round 1 but made it up with solid rounds the final three days.
Brian Noonan was runner-up, shooting a final- round 67 to sneak into second place.
