COC's Riley Marshall, Long Beach Community College, win Regional Championships

SANTA MARIA, CA (May 1, 2006) -- Riley Marshall of College of the Canyons in Valencia won the individual title and Long Beach Community College outlasted Santa Barbara on the first playoff hole to capture the team title in the SCGA-Southern California Community College Regional Championship today at Santa Maria CC. Marshall had rounds of 72-69 –141 to edge Kyle Nicholson of Santa Barbara by one shot for the individual title. Long Beach had two birdies, two pars and a bogey on the par-5 first hole (the first playoff hole) to edge Santa Barbara, 24-26. With the best five of six scores counting for the team total, each school shot 736 for two rounds. In addition to Long Beach and Santa Barbara, the COC and Bakersfield teams advanced to the State Community College Championship May 8 at The SCGA Golf Course in Murrieta. The top six players not members of those teams also advanced to the state tournament: Justin Warthen, Alan Hancock, who shot 144; Gavin Reid, Saddleback (145); Alan Frey, Cypress (145); Kurt Mascio, Orange Coast, (145); Chad Weatherall, College of the Desert (146) and Kris Assawapimonporn, Saddleback (146), who birdied the first hole of a playoff to advance.
