GREENVILLE, Miss. (June 23, 2013) -- Eddie Brescher of Canton managed to hold off the field despite some great final rounds today here in Greenville. Brescher fired a final round 3 under 69 to finish the weekend at 8 under par and clench the title by 3 strokes.

Claiming second with the low round for the day is Greenwood’s Alan Ellis who carded an impressive final round of 4 under par 68. Ellis finished the weekend at a total of 5 under par. Rodney Boswell of Lyon took third after a stunning double eagle on number 9 and finishing the day with a 3 over 75. Boswell finished at one under par for the weekend. Mike Brown of Greenville and Ricky Sims of Canton tied for the win in the 1st flight with a total score of 8 over par for the weekend. Sims carded a final round of 4 over par 76 and Brown finished with a final round of 1 over 73. There was also a tie for third as Tracey Cockerham of Hamilton and Chris Tharpe of Brandon both finished the weekend at 10 over par. Both Cockerham and Tharpe fired final rounds 4 over par 76. Ken Horton of Merigold took the win in the 2nd flight with his impressive closing round of 1 under par 71. Horton finished the weekend with a total of 9 over par. Daniel Finan of Meridian claimed second after carding a final round of 2 over 74 to finish the weekend at 12 over par. Brandon’s James Trammell took third with his final round of 4 over 76 to finish the weekend at 14 over par.

Greenville’s own Brother Sandifer claimed the win in the 3rd flight after firing a final round of 5 over par 77. Sandifer finished his weekend with a total of 16 over par. Mike Kent of Greenville claimed second with his final round of 6 over 78 to finish the weekend at 17 over par. Coming in third with a final round of 7 over 79 is Greenwoods Austin Wilkey. Wilkey finished the weekend with a total of 18 over par. Greenville’s Mark Scott took the win in the 4th flight of the regular division. Scott fired a final round of 7 over par 79 for a total of 27 over par for the weekend. Madison’s Randal Merchant took second after carding a final round of 15 over par 87 for a total of 29 over par for the weekend. Keith Phelps of Clarksdale took third with a final round of 12 over 84 and 30 over for the weekend.

The Super Seniors posted some very competitive final rounds today. Jackson’s Fred Brister held off the field and clenched the title by firing a final round of one under par 71. Brister finished the weekend with a total score of 5 under par 139. He was closely followed by Ken Hogue of Fulton who finished the day with an even par 72 and total score of 2 under 142 for the weekend. George Hinman of Brandon took third in the Super Senior Championship Flight carding a 2 over par 74 to finish the weekend at 2 over par. Cecil Watkins of Picayune took the win in the first flight of the super senior division by firing a 3 over par 75 and finishing the weekend at 12 over par. Coming in second is Greenville’s Cameron Montgomery who finished the weekend with a final round of 7 over 79 and 13 over for the weekend. There was a tie for third between Bob Oliver and Philip Doolittle, both of Greenville, at 15 over par. ABOUT THE Greenville Invitational

The tournament is scheduled for 36-holes of stroke play. There will be two divisions. The Regular division and a Super Senior division (age 60 and older). The Super Senior Division will play from forward tees. Each division will be flighted after 18 holes of play. Open to all male amateur golfers.
