Chris Williams will make his professional debut this week at the Travelers Championship
HARTFORD, Conn. (June 18, 2013) -- Chris Williams will make his professional debut this week at the Travelers Championship, a week after playing in the U.S. Open as an amateur and missing the cut by a single shot.
Williams, who recently capped a four-year career at the University of Washington by winning the Ben Hogan Award, has signed with Excel Sports Management.
“As Chris has demonstrated over the course of his stellar amateur career, he exemplifies the hard work and character the game of golf demands,” said Lance Young, the Excel agent who will be representing Williams. “He is ambitious, driven and focused, all of which are skills that will help him succeed on the PGA Tour.”
Last week’s U.S. Open start was the second of Williams’ career. He last played in 2011. Williams, of Moscow, Idaho, is the top-ranked player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Highlights of Williams’ amateur career includes the 2012 Western Amateur, 2011 Sahalee Amateur and the 2011 Pacific Coast Amateur. He played on the 2011 U.S. Walker Cup team, the victorious 2012 U.S. World Amateur Team Championship squad and was a two-time member of the U.S. Palmer Cup team. Williams won six individual titles at Washington.
“This is a dream come true, especially for a guy who comes from a small town in Idaho,” said Williams. “I am really excited for the opportunities ahead and am glad to be taking this journey with Excel Sports representing me, on and off the course.”
