Colo. Sr. Match Play: Top-seed falls

Tom Musselman of The Bridges in Montrose defeated top-seeded Eric Hoos of Highlands Ranch Golf Club, 2 and 1, in Thursday afternoon's quarterfinals

AURORA, Colo. (June 13, 2013) -- Tom Musselman of The Bridges in Montrose defeated top-seeded Eric Hoos of Highlands Ranch Golf Club, 2 and 1, in Thursday afternoon's quarterfinals of the CGA Senior Match Play Championship at Canongate at Blackstone in Aurora. Musselman, seeded ninth, ousted the University of Denver men's golf coach by winning the 15th and 17th holes after the match was all square with four left. The tournament is guaranteed to crown a first-time Senior Match Play champion on Friday after Harry Johnson of Eagle Ranch Golf Course eliminated the last former winner still in the field, 2005 champ Kelly Crone of Highlands Ranch GC, 1 up in the quarterfinals. Musselman, Johnson, Flatirons Golf Course superintendent Dave Brown and Mark Franz of Saddle Rock Golf Course each won two matches on Thursday to advance to the semifinals. Musselman will face Brown and Johnson will meet Franz in Friday morning's semis, with the winners squaring off in the afternoon final. Meanwhile, the final is set for the CGA Super-Senior Match Play for golfers 60 and older. Patrick Mooney of Colorado Golf Club, a past champion in both the Senior Match Play and Super-Senior Match Play, will take on Bruce Hayes of Heritage at Westmoor on Friday for the title.
