As a stubborn golfer, I need my apparel, equipment and shoes to hold up to the elements. No matter rain, sleet or snow, if I have my mind set on playing, I'm playing.

But staying dry and warm --- from head to toe --- is a tough task for any golfer hoping to get the most out of their season. Seeing as I call frigid New England home, I figure my conditions are as bad as anywhere this time of year.

The Nike Lunar Bandon is the perfect shoe to keep up with the elements, no matter where you play.

Introduced in late 2012, the Lunar Bandon looks very little like most other golf shoes. But remember, don't judge a book by its cover. You're no ordinary golfer. And this is no ordinary golf shoe.

For starters, the shoes are cut higher than any golf shoe I've ever seen or worn. Assuming that a low-profile waterproof golf shoe can only keep dry to its highest point, the Lunar Bandon is more of a high top settling just above the ankle.

Inside, is the full-length contoured sockliner -- - a breathable, comfortable and moisture-wicking slot to keep your feet snug and secure no matter the lie, terrain or conditions.

On the outside, it's made of seam-sealed waterproof leather all enclosed with a bonded zipper designed to keep the water out.

Crafted to take on harsh weather typical of the rugged Oregon coast, the Nike Lunar Bandon is moreover a mudder. But that doesn't mean it's not ready for golf. Molded with CHAMP Spikes' ScorpionStinger Tri-LOK spikes the Lunar Bandon is built on Nike's Power Platform, which means your sole keeps a low profile to help with a more athletic stance and increased stability --- something all golfers try to achieve.

My first try with the Lunar Bandons came in mid- November on a wet and windy day in Massachusetts. I was pleased to stay dry and found myself worrying not about where I stepped or walking around the various collection areas on the course, but on my next shot.

Overall, the shoe is a niche product. If you're a serious golfer and want to keep playing in any condition, the Lunar Bandon may be the perfect shoe for you.
