Designed by Roger Cleveland the Mack Daddy wedges from Callaway offer a high performance groove pattern that delivers 39 percent larger grooves for 25 percent more spin from the rough. In addition, these wedges come in many different lie, loft and grind options. The newest Mack Daddy 2 Tour Grind option is a T-Grind, which offers heel and toe relief for better turf interaction. The previous model Mack Daddy 2 wedge offers three additional grinds: S-grind, C-grind, and U-grind.

FIRST REACTION

First things first, this wedge is stunning. Both the tour chrome and brushed black finishes are very appealing.

At address, the clubs look almost too pretty to play with. When I first got mine, I was reluctant to use them anywhere but a perfect lie. The swing weight is a little on the heavy side compared to the competition but I prefer that in a wedge. It’s also nice that Callaway used the Golf Pride New Decade grip as a standard option making the club just a tad bit more appealing in my opinion.

PERFORMANCE/FEEL/SOUND

Like many avid golfers, I’ve hit just about every high-performance wedge on the market; hoping that one day I would find that golden wedge that can convert every up-and-down from within 100 yards.

Unfortunately, no such wedge exists. However, the Callaway Mack Daddy 2 series isn’t too far off.

Compared to the competition, I found the Mack Daddy to be undeniably softer at impact and to have the most bite out of the rough. Around the green, the Mack Daddy performs great – you can hit any type of shot from a low spinner to a higher flop or even a bump and run.

FINAL THOUGHT

Wedges are always tricky when it comes to picking the right one. There are many options to choose from and you want to avoid having to spend more money in order to find the right one. In my opinion I’ve been playing the Mack Daddy 2 wedge for about a month and I don’t have a single regret. I’m more than happy with the soft forged feel and extra spin out of the rough. My green side control has improved noticeably and my scores are beginning to come down. If you’re looking for a wedge that offers exceptional feel and performance you can’t go wrong with a Mack Daddy 2 wedge.

The Mack Daddy 2 wedge retails for $119 while the Tour-Grind option retails for $129
