Former collegiate golfer Taryn Yee got fitted for the latest shafts and clubs at a Fujikura-sponsored event in San Diego
by Taryn Yee, AmateurGolf.com Equipment Panel
When I got invited to join the AmateurGolf.com Equipment Panel Meetup in San Diego, I knew it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. After stepping away from golf for more than a decade following my collegiate career, returning to the sport has been both challenging and rewarding. It hasn't quite been the 'like riding a bike' experience I was hoping for. My consistency had dropped, I was missing the distance I once had, and I was finding it hard to regain the feel I remembered. This event proved to be the perfect opportunity to find my game again.
Discovering the Power of Foresight Launch Monitors
This was my first experience using Foresight launch monitors and simulators, and they didn’t disappoint. I’d only seen TrackMan monitors in action on the range before, but Foresight’s technology had a different feel – portable, user-friendly, and super responsive.
Having access to instant, accurate data on every shot was a game-changer, and I could see the benefits not only in my practice sessions but also in the insights it provided when fitting equipment.
A Bonus Clinic from YouTube star Mr. Short Game
One of the highlights of the event was the Mr. Short Game clinic. I’ll admit I never spent as much time on my short game as I should have, so this clinic was exactly what I needed. My favorite drill was the ladder drill. It’s a simple concept: 20 balls, a focus on feel, and no technical analysis – just trying to hit each chip farther than the last. For someone like me, who’s used to approaching the game mechanically, it was refreshing to simply work on touch and consistency. It reminded me of the importance of feel and showed me a way to bring it back into my game.
An Unforgettable Experience in San Diego
Looking back, the four days in San Diego were unforgettable. AmateurGolf.com treated us to a beautiful stay on the water, incredible rounds at Aviara Golf Club and Torrey Pines North Course, inspiring sessions, and a chance to connect with other amazing golfers. To top it off, I walked away with a new Fujikura and Cobra driver to help take my game to the next level.
Thank you again to AmateurGolf.com and all the sponsors for making this experience possible.
