One of the most personal decisions golfers make when customizing their clubs is which grip to install. And what could be more personal than a fingerprint?
That's the thought behind Lamkin's new Fingerprint surface pattern found on the TS1 and Sonar grips. Put your hands on them and you'll feel the tackiness of the underlying Genesis material (more on that later) and the mesh of the Fingerprint pattern with your fingers. Lamkin has been working diligently in the labs, and with pro and amateur testers to bring technologies like Fingerprint to market.
AmateurGolf.com members have been an important part of the "feedback loop" on these grips, so I'm going to include some of their comments in this article below. We sent them grips and took their comments directly as part of our Equipment Panelist program.
TS1's reduced-taper shape is Tour-inspired. Top pros have been putting "extra wraps" on the lower part of the grip for years -- it helps reduce excess grip tension for a more fluid swing.
We all know that tension is a killer in the golf swing, and these testers felt the effect soon after installing TS1:
"Beautiful grip. Great feel with driver and mid irons. I hit balls with and without a glove on, with no sluppage whatsoever. I will be re gripping my clubs with these."
"I like the feel of the grip. I felt my grip pressure was lighter do the the design of less taper. This help with making a smoother swing."
The proprietary Genesis compound used in TS1 is exceptionally durable and maintains a consistent feel in wet weather, or those hot and sticky summer days.
These testers really liked the way TS1 with Genesis performs in rainy and humid conditions:
"Have used the TS1 for 3 rounds and it is not only good looking but feels solid and the feedback is excellent. I play in hot and high humidity and the grip was very good in those conditions. So far, very satisfied."
"We had a lot of rain in Charleston and I was happy with the grip even playing in a light drizzle. Will keep these in mind when ordering new grips for my next set."
And this guy loves the way the contour, texture, and feel of TS1 promotes the all important connection between body and club. We'll give him the last word:
"I could feel/appreciate the tech within the grip, which worked with the contours of my hand/grip better than any grip I've tried. I could distinctly feel how each part of my hand was attached to the club. I think this is important when trying to create a seamless connection between the body and club. The grip certainly encourages hand unity, comfortable and confidence."
We took some time out recently with Bob Lamkin, the third generation Lamkin family member to run this 90-plus year young business.
