The Rawls Course was designed in 2003 by renowned course architect Tom Doak, whose designs include Pacific Dunes Golf Club in Oregon and Cape Kidnappers Golf Club in New Zealand. Doak was given the task of creating a golf course that would test the best collegiate players in the country, and at the same time provide an enjoyable social venue for the Texas Tech university community. The land was brilliantly transformed a dead-flat cotton field into a heavily contoured, landscaped layout, with the prevailing wind dictating the design and strategy of the holes.
