The Apawamis Club was established in 1890 and built in its present location in 1899, hosted its first USGA championship in 1911, with the U.S. Amateur, won by Harold Hilton. Hollis Stacy won her second U.S. Girls' Junior Championship at The Apawamis Club in 1970, and the USA captured the 1978 Curtis Cup at Apawamis.
Marion "Sis" Choate, a member of The Apawamis Club until her death in 1988, captured the second USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship, in 1963.
