Who says you need 14 clubs to play golf? In 1916, Chick Evans shot 2-under-par 286 to win the US Open at The Minikahda Club - using just 7 clubs. His score was a US Open record for 20 years, and it prompted the members to bring in Donald Ross to redesign the course in 1917. The elegant lakeside clubhouse was retained, and still stands today. Golf Architect Ron Prichard restored the course as part of the club's master plan in 2001, stretching out the course and bringing the Ross greens back to their original size. The clubhouse was refurbished as well.
