Black Horse GC, after a 1998 redesign under the guidance of PGA Tour architect Chris Gray, is as formidable as its sister course Bayonet. The 6800 yard track -- named in honor of the 11th Cavalry Regiment (nicknamed "Black Horse") which was stationed at the Presidio of Monterey from 1919 to 1940 -- hosts one round of the amateurgolf.com Monterey Bay Championship and has also hosted PGA Tour qualifying and the Monterey Peninsula Classic on the Nationwide Tour.
