The Big T combines Odyssey’s revolutionary Versa and Marxman alignment systems, creating a dual alignment aid that can only be described as a “Big T” when you set up to the ball. The unique, white-on-black alignment design is inspired in part by the company’s existing Versa V-Line putter, a perimeter-weighted mallet that features a black contrasting aid in the shape of a T.

“The Big T is an extension of our Versa technology which had the contrast alignment stripe that was perpendicular to the path. So that really helps you you line up the putter,” said Austie Rollinson, Principal Designer at Odyssey Golf. “We also had some that were turned 90 degrees like our 2-Ball Marksman (from face to back). The Big T is a combination of both of those.”

Golfers who tend to struggle with either alignment or pace will want to get their hands on the new putters for testing. Odyssey is releasing four distinct putters this month and are confident that the new Works Big T will set the benchmark for performance putters with dual alignment.

We got a chance to roll some putts with "Big T" at the Ely Callaway Performance Center in Carlsbad the day before it was released. And yes, it is easy to align. What the AmateurGolf.com team found is that a byproduct of being aligned properly (especially on the line of your intended putt) is that more putts come off solid. Ask any good putter, and they will tell you that hitting putts solid is the key to distance control. You can't control 40 foot putts if you don't know what part of the putter face you're striking the ball on.

Rollinson, who has been with Odyssey since 1991 and has designed most if not all the putters the company has released since 1998, came up with the concept of the dual alignment after realizing that some players naturally preferred the perpendicular design while others preferred a parallel aid. “This gives you the best of both worlds so it’s almost foolproof in how easy it is to see if you’re square to your target or not,” he said.

The main putter in this series is the modified V-Line, one of the hottest mallets offered in the marketplace. The perimeter- weighted, high MOI design is currently used by Callaway staffers Branden Grace and Danny Willett on the European Tour. Additionally, Odyssey also added the more compact #5 mallet putter, a center-shafted V-Line and the completely new Big T Blade which was specially designed so that the alignment strips are directly incorporated as the predominant feature.

Each of these putters comes with a black powder coat shaft that reduces glare and has proven to be a huge hit with tour players. With the exception of the center-shafted model, all other putters in this series use either a single- bend shaft (#5 mallet) or a double-bend shaft, each with a full-shaft offset.

As part of the Works line, the Big T putters also utilize the ever popular and ingenious Fusion RX insert that, when coupled with the White Hot insert, allows the ball to come off the putter face faster with reduced skidding.

“We took some of our best insert technologies and fused them together into one. That means taking our White Hot insert which has been tour-proven over many, many years and combine that feel with the roll characteristics of our Metal-X pattern,” said Rollinson. “In order to keep the feel of the White Hot we decided to put a thin stainless steel mesh on the front of the insert. [The mesh] flexes with the insert so that you still get the feel and ball speed of the White Hot, with the friction that puts that good roll on the ball. It’s probably the best insert we’ve made to date.”

The Odyssey Works Big T putters will retail for $179.99 each and will hit stores on June 12th. Given that Odyssey is combining a number of critically acclaimed, best-selling technologies within the new line, expect the Big T to generate big buzz this Summer.
