Pete Wlodkowski
Founder of AmateurGolf.com, launched June of 2000 in Pebble Beach at the U.S. Open. Member, Olympic Club, Goat Hill Park, and Torrey Pines Mens Club. I love to play all types of courses, muni or private. An enjoyable walk, quality shot values, and good people make all the difference. I've never won a major amateur event, or qualified for a USGA championship. But I have won club championships on both coasts - three in California and one in my home state of Connecticut.

I'm an avid golfer who plays more than most people but never as much as I would like. I enjoy playing new courses anytime I can. If I play well I want to play again because I think I have discovered the secret and if I play poorly I want to play again even more.

Have approached the game from all angles: as a player, college coach, sport psych, tournament director, referee, caddie, starter, marshal, photographer, author, and researcher. Introduced to the game by my dad, who got me involved in junior golf in the Houston area and in the AJGA back in the early days. Played college golf at Rice University. Since then, have been able to keep competing well into my forties, playing in all kinds of national and state championships, opens, invitationals, mid- ams, four-balls, scrambles, shambles--you name it--in thirty-six states and seven countries. Been through all the ups and downs of trying to master the game, and of trying to maintain the balance between golf, work and family. Still learn something every time I play, which isn't enough these days!

A golfer since my first steps, I grew up in and around the public links of San Francisco, where the air is thick like clam chowder and the rough is tough as stale sourdough. I’ve spent countless hours in and around the game, playing, watching, contemplating, and eventually trying to understand what really goes on during that four-hour walk in the park, so it’s especially tough when the game shows it’s teeth just to let you know that you haven’t figured out a thing. When I’m not busy being perplexed by the sport and its many facets, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, going to the gym, watching Netflix, or participating in golf of any other composition (i.e. frisbee, mini, foot, Wii).

I’m a lover of college and amateur golf who cut my teeth at Golfweek magazine before going on to launch my own golf blog, Beyond the Sunday Driver. Outside of writing about golf, I also love to play it. I’m a high school girls golf coach, which gives me a reason to be at the course every day, and I’m still chasing my first USGA championship berth. Twitter: @BTSD_Jules Blog: beyondthesundaydriver.com
