ECCO's Biom Hydromax is a stylish and high-performance twist on what a modern golf shoe should be
Not everyone is ready to throw away the spike wrench in favor of the casual, "permanent tread" style of golf shoes made popular by Fred Couples.
It might be because they play their golf in wet conditions, hilly terrain, or just because they like the way a fresh pair of spikes make them feel more "bolted down". But whatever the reason, many players aren't ready to jump on the spikeless shoe bandwagon.
New high tech non-metal spikes like those manufactured by CHAMP Spikes (Read more about CHAMP Spikes here) continue to evolve into some very functional, and longer-lasting designs.
Pair those designs with a lightweight, ergonomic shoe, and you've got the perfect marriage of tradition and utility.
It's called the ECCO Biom Hydromax.
My first pair of Bioms required no break-in -- their supple Yak (yes, Yak) leather outsoles felt as if they were a golf glove in another life. The Biom's molded sides provide a solid base, and the lace system is really easy to tighten to the perfect fit. The removable bottom insole provides excellent arch support.
Biom Hydromax are available in a fully waterproof Gore Tex variety, or in a water resistant version for those of us lucky enough to seldom see rain. ECCO Golf shoes are available at ECCO retail stores, pro shops, and, off course, retailers like Worldwide Golf.
NOTE: ECCO sizing is European; I'm a size 9 1/2 and wear a 43. It's easy once you get the hang of it and the shoe sizes seem to run consistently across models.
