CORRAL DE TIERRA, Calif. (May 23, 2012) -- Sandy Woodruff of Santa Cruz finished on top the leaderboard at the 34th playing of the California Senior Women’s Championship played at Corral de Tierra Country Club. Woodruff finished the 54-hole event at 232 (75-77-80) four ahead of second place finisher, Sally Krueger of San Francisco who carded 236 (80-79-77.) Woodruff, a past champion who won the tournament in 2001 and 2003, had a great ball striking day, hitting 15 greens in regulation. She struggled a little with her putting on the firm, fast greens with a few three-putts, but managed to stay ahead of Krueger who made a charge on the front nine shooting even par. “I’m happy to still be playing pretty good competitive golf in my sixties. Sally is a fine competitor and was very capable of catching me today. This victory means a lot to me and the event is a great tradition.” Two-time defending champion Tina Barker of Castro Valley finished up in third place at 239 (83-77-79.) Barker commented, “I love this championship and will miss having that trophy in my living room. The camaraderie in our ranks is remarkable and that makes up for a lot of bad shots. Congrats to Sandy!” Former Salinas resident and Tucson transplant, Judy Miller, posted a 240 (76-83-81) and finished in fourth place. “I feel right at home here. Corral is one of my favorite courses and it’s wonderful to see roses instead of cactus for a change.” The Super Senior Championship was won by Pebble Beach’s Suzie Fisher, the defending champion.
