Amateurgolf.com talks to Nuun about taking their hydration tablets from action sports to the golf course
ORLANDO, Fla. (Jan. 26, 2012) -- Well
known to runners and triathletes, Nuun wasn't neccesarily
crafted with the golfer in mind.
That has changed in recent years as the
effervescent electrolyte tablet has become a
favorite on the PGA Tour and a key product in
many golf shops.
Thank Davis Love III for that...
"Davis [Love III] tried it on a
snowboarding trip with his children and
absolutely loved it," explained David
Everett, Managing Director of Golf with Nuun
at
the PGA show in Florida.
"His agent reached out to us regarding a potential sponsorship but the company at first wasn't interested in entering the golf market."
Love III remained persistent and when he
called again, with the Nuun brand growing fast,
it made sense to gear towards the golfer.
Nuun comes in effervescent tabs, which
quickly dissolve in a water bottle or cup. The
tabs are easy to take with you and come in 11
flavors, including lemon-lime, tri-berry,
strawberry lemonade, grape, orange and fruit
punch, among others. Nuun has zero sugar and
under eight calories.
Most importantly, it provides the electrolytes
athletes need to remain hydrated.
We tried them on the course in California,
and really enjoyed the great taste and
convenience. Nothing against other mainstay
bottled energy drinks, but along with the
electrolytes they carry calories that you really
don't need to get hydrated. If you're health
conscious, that may be reason enough to try
Nuun. (And an important point of reference -
we can tell you from experience that Nuun
passes the 11-year-old taste test.)
Nuun is used by athletes across many sports.
In addition to Love III, many players on the
PGA Tour use Nuun to stay hydrated. Keegan
Bradley, Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald, Charl
Schwartzl, Jason Day and Adam Scott are just
a few players that represent the brand ---
without being paid. In all, more than 45 players
on tour use Nuun.
