Amateurgolf.com member Scott Pinckney medaled at the Glendale, Calif. site to earn his ticket to the 2011 U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club next week

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. (June 7, 2011) -- It was sectional qualifying day across the country where professionals and amateurs alike attempted to earn a spot at the U.S. Open, held next week at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.

Amateurs did well in the California qualifier held at Oakmont CC in Glendale, a suburb of Los Angeles. Amateurgolf.com member Scott Pinckney from Scottsdale, Ariz. tied for medal honors with professional Matthew Edwards from Las Cruces, N.M. Both men fired rounds of 67- 70-137. Amateur Beau Hossler from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. qualified along with Hale Irwin's son amateur Steven Irwin from Arvada, Colo. Both men had scores 67-71- 138. Professional Brian Locke of Los Angeles, Calif. also qualifed with scores 69-70-139

In Vero Beach, Fla. Joey Lamielle Sarasota, Fla. 68-72-140, (a) Michael Barbosa Saint Petersburg, Fla. 68-73-141, and Sam Saunders Orlando, Fla. 69-72- 141

In Ball Ground, GA qualifiers included Ryan Nelson from Dickinson, Texas fired 66- 66-132, amateur Brett Patterson from Mcminnville, Tenn. shot 70-62-132, and amateur star from the Univeristy of Georgia, Russell Henley carded 68-65-133

In St. Charles, Ill. Bennett Blakeman from Burr Ridge, Ill. qualified with 68-67-135, amateur Brad Benjamin from Rockford, Ill. made it through with 67-69- 136, and amateur Christopher Deforest from Cottekill, N.Y. also made it through with scores of 71-65-136.

In Rockville, Md. it was all about the pros while no amateurs were able to qualify. Philip Choi from Orlando was close, with scores or 69-68-137 missing a playoff by a single shot. Professional qualifiers included: Kirk Triplett, Scottsdale, Ariz. 69-64-133; Jon Mills, Canada 70-64-134; Fred Funk, Ponte Vedra, Fla. 67-68-135; Elliot Gealy, Salisbury, N.C. 70-65- 135; Michael Tobiason Jr, Wilmington, Del. 69- 66-135; Ty Tryon Orlando, Fla. 71-64- 135; Bubba Dickerson, Hilliard, Fla. 72-64- 136; Christo Greyling, Orlando, Fla. 67-69- 136; David May, Auburn, N.Y. 68-68- 136; Will Wilcox, Ashville, Ala. 67-69-136.

In Summit, N.J., Geoffrey Sisk from Marshfield, Mass. medaled with scores of 67- 70-137, Matt Richardson of England qualified with rounds of 69-69-138, amateur and 2011 Azalea Invitational Champioon, Cheng-tsung Pan from Chinese Taipei, also qualified with scores of 72-66-138 and professional Alexander Rocha from Windermere, Fla. qualified with scores 71-67-138

In Columbus, Ohio UCLA's Patrick Cantlay made it through along with a list of whose who on the PGA Tour. Qualifiers included:Chez Reavie, Scottsdale, Ariz. 69-63-132; Brandt Jobe , Westlake, Texas 62-70-132; Robert Garrigus, Charleston, S.C. 67-66- 133; Charleston, S.C. 67-66- 133; Adam Long, St Louis, Mo. 70-65- 135; Justin Hicks, Royal Palm Beach, Fla. 69- 66-135; Nicholas O'Hern, Australia 68-67-135; Patrick Cantlay, Los Alamitos, Calif. 65-70-135; Chris Wilson, Dublin, Ohio 70-66-136; D A Points, Windermere, Fla. 68-68- 136; John Senden, Flower Mound, Texas 68- 68-136; Marc Turnesa, Jupiter, Fla. 69-67-136; Kevin Chappell, Scottsdale, Ariz. 68-68- 136; Marc Leishman, Norfolk, Va. 68-68-136; Webb Simpson, Charlotte, N.C. 68-69- 137; Tim Petrovic, Austin, Texas 69-68- 137; and Scott Hend, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. 64- 73-137

In Springfield, Oho, amateurs were shut with Luke Guthrie missing out in a playoff. Qualifiers and alternates from the Springfield location include Seung Yul Noh from South Korea with scores of 66-66-132 and Jesse Hutchins from Cincinnati, Ohio with scores 71-64-135. The alternate is amateur Luke Guthrie from Quincy, Ill. with scores 69-66-135.

In Memphis, Tenn. amateur William "Bud" Cauley fired 67-65-132 to share medalist honors with professional Sunghoon Kang of Korea (67-65-132). Other qualifiers include: Michael Putnam Lakewood, Wash. 64-69- 133; Scott Piercy, Las Vegas, Nev. 67-66- 133; Andres Gonzales Olympia, Wash. 67-66- 133; Fredrik Jacobson, Hobe Sound, Fla. 67-67- 134; Sergio Garcia, Cleveland, Ohio 68-67- 135; Brian Gay, Windemere, Fla. 68-67-135; Chad Campbell, Andrews, Texas 66-69- 135;and Briny Baird, Palm City, Fla. 68-67-135.

In Dallas, Texas amateur Michael Whitehead from Sugarland, Texas shot 68-68-136 and then lost in playoff to PGA Tour pros Greg Chalmers and Harrison Frazer. Michael Smith from Lafayete, La. was medalist with scores of 69-64-133 and former Open Champion Todd Hamilton qualified with scores of 67-68-135.

In Bremerton, Wash. amateur Chris Williams from Moscow, Idaho medaled with scores of 70-68- 138. Other qualifiers include Adam Hadwin from Canada with scores of 68-71-139, Wes Heffernan also from Canada with rounds of 69-70-139, and John Ellis from San Jose, Calif. who shot 67-73-140.

Final qualifying for the U.S. Open Championship. Played at various sites across the U.S. on the Monday a week and half before the U.S. Open. There is also a qualifier in Japan and in England. 36 holes of stroke play at each site.
