Daniel Eggertsson and Jason Harkins win the Palm Beach Four Ball sponsored by Arrigo Dodge Chrysler Jeep by one over Danny Germaine & John Powers

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (May 15, 2011) –- Daniel Eggertsson of Royal Palm Beach birdied the last two holes Sunday as he teamed with Jason Harkins of Tequesta to win the 30th annual Arrigo Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep Four-Ball Championship at Bear Lakes Country Club.

Eggertsson and Harkins, who met for the first time in the cart staging area just before the first round started Friday, combined for a closing round four-ball stroke play score of six under par 66 for 199 as they overtook the first and second round leaders, Danny Germaine of Palm Beach Gardens and John Powers of Boca Raton, who closed on 70-200. Germaine and Powers shot 66-64 the first two days.

“They (Eggertsson and Harkins) were both looking for partners last week,” said Tommy Belen, executive director of the Palm Beach County Golf Association. “That happens a few times each season but I can’t say whether it’s the first time a pairing like that has ever won…I just don’t remember.”

For sure, it’s the first PBCGA victory for both Eggertsson, 28, a salesman for a painting contractor, and Harkins, 34, who lists being an investor among his three jobs.

Germaine and Powers won the county’s Firecracker Four-Ball last year at Mayacoo Lakes. Germaine has won 10 PBCGA titles since 2007 and was Player of the Year in ’09. Eggertsson and Harkins opened with 70, modified alternate shots, and had a scramble score of 63 on Saturday to move into a tie for second, three strokes behind the leaders. They had five birdies and three bogeys Friday, 10 birdies and a bogey Saturday and six birdies Sunday.

“That round Saturday was just awesome,” Harkins said. They picked up one shot on the front nine Sunday and pulled even twice on the back on bogeys by their playing partners at 14 and 16. At the par-5 17th, Eggertsson two-putted from 40 feet and at the par-4 18th he sank an eight footer for the victory after reaching the green with a pitching wedge out of the left rough.

“We both played well and it was very enjoyable,” Eggertsson added.
