Jeff Golliher has joined his brother, Steve, as a TGA Mid-Amateur Championship winner. Jeff had his best day of the rain-soaked event at his home course of Holston Hills to take this year's tournament.

KNOXVILLE, TN (October 15, 2009)--Jeff Golliher has joined his brother, Steve, as a TGA Mid-Amateur Championship winner. The Gollihers are both enshrined in the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame and are the first brothers to win the Mid-Amateur title.

Jeff had his best day of the rain-soaked event at his home course of Holston Hills to take this year's tournament. He shot a 3 under par 69 in the soggy conditions.

Here is the Tennessee Golf Association's release on the Mid-Amateur Championship:

With weather threatening to cancel the final round, Jeff Golliher shot his lowest round of the tournament to capture the TGA Mid-Amateur Championship presented by Gentleman Jack, held at Holston Hills Country Club.

Golliher, a Holston Hills member, played near flawless golf while carding a 3 under par round of 69 to finish the tournament with a three day total of 4 under par 212. Golliher joins his brother Steve, who captured the 1996 TGA Mid-Amateur Championship at Richland CC, as the only two brothers to place their names on the John Atkins Mid-Amateur Trophy.

While Golliher was trying to wrap up the tournament, Buzz Fly (Memphis) was doing his best to catch him. Fly turned in the tournament's best round with a stirring final round 8 under par 64 to finish the tournament at a three day total of 1 under par 215. Joining Fly at 215 was Scott McGaha (Knoxville), who for the third day in a row lowered his score from the previous round, as he shot a final round of 2 under par 70. Jay Wise (Knoxville), who was leading entering the final day, came home with a 4 over par 76 to finish tied for fourth with Todd Burgan (Knoxville), round of 2 over par 74, at a three day total of 1 over par 217.

The TGA Mid-Amateur Championship is one of fifteen championships that the TGA conducts annually. For more information on the TGA Mid-Amateur Championship and the Tennessee Golf Association, please visit us online at www.golfhousetennessee.com.
