With its recent release of the new TVD wedges from Bob Vokey, Titleist is putting the amateur golfer even closer to that tour-like experience

Titleist has long been at the forefront of custom fitting and providing amateur players with a 'tour-like' experience when it comes to getting them into a set of irons or the latest driver. With its recent release of the new TVD wedges from Bob Vokey, Titleist is putting the amateur golfer even closer to that tour-like experience. Standing for 'Tour Van Design', the TVD wedges -- imagined and designed by Master Craftsman Bob Vokey -- offer performance and versatility through the PGA Tour's most popular grooves, shapes and grinds. The TVD series came about based on Vokey's work on-site at Tour events inside the Titleist Tour van. The shape of the TVD wedges is lower in the heel and more rounded in the toe for a classic, tour-inspired look. The new TVD wedge line from Vokey and Titleist include two models. The TVD-K, available in lofts of 54-60 degrees, is inspired through Vokey's work with major champions Adam Scott and Jason Dufner. The goal with the TVD-K engineering was to create a sole playable in a variety of conditions. The K models feature a wider, more cambered sole, giving it a comfortable feel in and out of the bunker and around teh greens. “The K grind has been a huge hit for us,” Vokey said in a Titleist press release. “It’s only been on Tour for a couple of years but we already have 30 guys using it. I think the secret is the cambered sole. It is wide and forgiving, but the camber keeps the club moving through the turf. So it’s playable in a variety of conditions.” A TVD-K 54 is a new addition to the series and has a wide-sole option currently not available in the SM5 series of wedges. Available in 50-60 degree lofts, the TVD-M is based off of feedback and shape related to the original TVD series. With a more rounded teardrop profile, it also has increased playability from varying conditions thanks to the cresence-shaped M grind sole. “We’ve had a lot of requests to match up the chassis, or shape, of the TVD-M with the TVD-K,” Vokey said. “It’s the natural progression of the series. We now have three distinct shapes in the Vokey family: the SM5 with a high toe peak, the rounded teardrop of the TVD, and the compact look of the Hand Ground series. We have a look to fit anyone’s eye.” All TVD wedges now feature the new, deeper Spin Milled TX3 grooves, delivering more spin for precision trajectory and distance control and improved greenside performance. TX3 scorelines, a progressive design with seven percent larger groove volume, produce additional backspin by channeling away grass and sand for improved contact between the ball and groove edge. Proprietary Spin Milled technology also provides trajectory and distance control through precisely milled grooves and machined face texture, significantly reducing the chance of “flyers” from the rough. Both models will be available May 7 on Vokey.com. -Information from Titleist was used in this report
