The 113th U.S. Amateur Championship will be held August 12-18 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. The qualifying process began in early July and ends July 30. All told, there will be 98 qualifying locations with all being 36 holes of stroke play.

Cal red- shirt freshman and Alameda Commuters winner Pace Johnson led all scorers Monday, firing 68- 66=135 to take medalist honors at 8-under. He'll be joined by UNLV signee Shintaro Ban, who shot 4-under during the 36-hole qualifer. Ban, of course, is the brother of Shotaro Ban, another top-ranked amateur and fellow Cal red- shirt. Jimmy Castles of Cupertino, Calif. took the third and final qualifying spot, tying Ban at 4-under.
