Long Beach Match Play: Quarterfinals set
LONG BEACH, Calif. (June 9, 2013) -- And then there eight.

Week 2 of the Long Beach Match Play Championship is complete and eight golfers remain entering next weekend's quarterfinals, semifinals and championship matches.

In the top bracket, qualifying medalist Pete Fernandez, Jr. is still alive and will face Jordan Oliver in Saturday's quarterfinals. Fernandez beat Matthew Grant, Ray Yang and Jonathan Saunders while Oliver advanced with wins over Joey Kyron, David Merino and Jason Hopkins.

No. 3 seed Jordan Guillen will face Bruce Sheridan in another quarterfinal match. Guillen moved on with wins over Matt Lord, Justin Gullock adn Francisco Reynoso. Sheridan moved on thanks to wins over Shane Kowal, Miles Cole and Derek Jones.

On the other side of the bracket, 63-seeded Adrian Young stays alive. He'll take on Cole Young, the 56th seed. Young moved on with a 1-up win over No. 2 Yuya Okada and wins over Ryan Panichpakdee and Conner Hurst. Young beat Ed Susolik, Eric Cross and Steve Wagner.

In the fourth quarterfinal, Jacob Schulze and Nick Swanson will meet. Swanson, the 11th seed, moved on with wins over Nick Zapotoczny, Conner Whitcomb and Gabriel Admendiraz. Schulze remaisn with wins over Rick Taniguchi, Boris Stantchev and Jeff Lewis.

ABOUT THE Long Beach Match Play

36 Holes of qualifying followed by matches over two weekends. Open to men amateur golfers with a one-year established handicap and 12- month LI (Low Index) of 4.9 or better, OR who have played high school or collegiate golf within the past two years.
