Mississippi Am: Brescher takes early lead
SAUCIER, Miss. (June 7, 2013) -- Eddie Brescher of Canton went low this morning in the first round of the State Amateur Championship at Grand Bear Gold Course. An impressive start to the day with three birdies on ten, eleven and twelve setup Brescher perfectly and an eagle on number 2 solidified his place at the top of the leaderboard at 4-under par, 68. Brescher is awarded the Mike Magee Trophy as the low round medalist.
The closest competition sits two strokes back. Steve Wilson of Ocean Springs and Nick Beale of Pass Christian are tied at 2-under, 70. The second round will certainly be one to follow as the field will be cut to the low 60 and ties following 36 holes.
Threatening weather held off for the afternoon and only a light rain came through. The Mississippi Golf Association sends out a big thanks to the entire staff at Grand Bear for the continuous hospitality. Looking forward to the remainder of the Championship and awarding the Spec Wilson trophy at the conclusion of play Sunday.
